Footprint

Chilly’s footprint includes three key areas: climate action, water & chemical use, and waste. Our approach to these topics is first to measure and understand where we are, and then to create a plan to reduce our impacts based on the data we find. This approach is a long one, but it ensures that the steps we take have a real positive impact, rather than short term gains.

Climate Action

In 2022, we calculated the carbon footprint of our products and operations with an external carbon expert. We’re not quite ready to share this yet, as we want to have this verified by a third party before releasing the information. Once we have this, we look forward to sharing our findings with you. As part of this, we will also be sharing our roadmap to reduce our carbon impact, which we are excited to reveal.

What is a carbon footprint?

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) released by a company. Greenhouse gases are gases in the earth's atmosphere that trap heat. The more that are released, the stronger the impact. It is called a carbon footprint as a shorthand for all the different greenhouse gases, which include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and fluorinated gases.

Carbon is emitted throughout supply chains, and in 2022, Chilly’s focused on the footprint relating to the making of our products, raw material use, shipping, and packaging. We will be expanding this further in future years as we refine our data collection.

Our commitments:

• Publish carbon data and carbon action plan - end of 2023
• Achieve Net Zero - by 2030

Water & chemical use

Water is an area which we know we need to understand better. In 2023, we are going to be looking at how we can measure the use of water in the making of our products. We’re starting with our main product suppliers, but our ambition is to understand our impact throughout our supply chain.

We will be mapping the use of chemicals throughout our product supply chain to understand where we can reduce the use. We will also strive to ensure that they are being used responsibly, beyond the duty of care for disposal.

Our commitments:

• Undertake supply chain water risk assessment in 2023 and set action plan from findings by March 2024
• Undertake supply chain chemical assessment by end of 2024 and set action plan from findings by March 2025

Waste

Chilly’s ambition is to measure and then reduce waste throughout our supply chain.

Our ambition is to undertake an assessment of the waste produced throughout our supply chain, focusing initially on tier 1 suppliers, and then to expand this to tier 2 and beyond. This will enable us to understand where our biggest opportunities are by identifying areas where we can meaningfully reduce our impacts.

Chilly’s has already been addressing waste within our packaging, which you can find more about in the materials section.

Chilly’s has also established a recycling scheme for products at the end of their lives. The ambition of this is to keep the valuable resources from waste in use. You can find out more about this in the circularity section.

Our commitments:

• Measure waste produced in tier 1 of supply chain - end of 2023
• Set target to address waste in supply chain by March 2024
